Two kinds of Advent Lessons and Carols

Sunday offers two chances to hear the traditional Anglican Advent service of Lessons and Carols, which alternates the biblical story of Christmas with meditative choir and congregational singing.

Christ Episcopal Church: 5 p.m. Sunday, entry by donation, 310 N. K St., Tacoma. 253-383-1569, ccptacoma.org.

University of Puget Sound: 7 p.m. Sunday, free, but bring canned food donation, Kilworth Chapel, North 17th and North Warner streets, Tacoma. The Adelphian Concert Choir and Voci d’Amici will sing a winter concert beforehand, at 2 p.m. 253-879-3555, pugetsound.edu.

Beautiful Angle poster sale

Looking for a gift that screams “Tacoma”? Guerrilla poster duo Beautiful Angle combine letterpress and smart wit to make art you can’t get anywhere else. At its annual holiday benefit sale, you get to browse through years of posters at discounted prices while listening to live music (Wow, Laura) consuming craft beer and food, and knowing your money is going to a good charity.

7 p.m. Saturday. Free admission (posters at various prices). Breaker Studio Gallery, 747 S. Fawcett St., Suite B, Tacoma. beautifulangle.homestead.com and Facebook.

‘Small Works’ at White River Valley Museum

The works might be small (12 inches wide or less) at the White River Valley Museum’s annual artist sale, but the gift is big: a painting, drawing or sculpture by one of 40 local artists. The ninth annual juried show supports both artists and the museum.

Noon-4 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays through Dec. 20. Free entry. White River Valley Museum, 918 H St. SE, Auburn. 253-288-7433, wrvmuseum.org.

‘Downton Abbey’ season 6 preview at Pantages

Watching the beginning of the new “Downton Abbey” season in a Downton Abbey-era building? That’s the deal with the season six preview happening Monday at Tacoma’s 1918 Pantages Theater, where a free community event includes the first hour of the first episode screened in the historic theater, plus carol singers and a photo-op booth. Costumes encouraged.

7 p.m. Monday. Free with online registration. Pantages Theater, 901 Broadway, Tacoma. 253-591-5894, broadwaycenter.org.
