“Peter and the Wolf” comes to Harbor History Museum, Gig Harbor
Nearly 80 years after it was written, Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” still entrances kids who follow the musical story of a boy who outwits both his grumpy grandpa and a hungry wolf. This Saturday the piece comes to Gig Harbor’s Harbor History Museum, where KING-FM announcer Sean MacLean will narrate and former Northwest Sinfonietta director Christophe Chagnard will conduct a chamber ensemble.
“Peter and the Wolf” was written in 1936 as a symphony for children. It tells the story both through the narration and through musical themes for each character played by different instruments: the daring Peter by the strings, the grumpy grandfather (who warns Peter to stay inside the garden gate) by the bassoon, Peter’s clever bird friend by the flute, the rather stupid duck by the oboe, the cunning cat by the clarinet, the hunters by the timpani and the wolf by the French horns.
The performance comes with authentic Russian tea and treats.
