Critic’s Picks: Three don’t-miss arts events in the South Sound
Swing band at Tacoma Little Theatre
94-year-old Ozzie Fuhrmann has been leading swing bands since the golden age of swing in the 1940s. He’ll bring his three-generation band to Tacoma Little Theatre Thursday for an all-ages night of classics from the 1930s and 1940s to fund the community theater’s Club TLT education program.

Vashon art studio tour
The annual Vashon Island art studio tour takes in 22 studios up and down the island, from watercolor to pottery to wood and glass. Self-guided, maps are available on the tour website or from island businesses.

Seattle Symphony American music fest
The last century of American music has been a vast, rich landscape — and the Seattle Symphony explores it all with “Tuning Up,” a festival of Broadway, minimalism, avant-garde, jazz, classical, film and Hollywood. The festival, now halfway through its two weeks, features an all-Gershwin outdoor concert at Marymoor Park this Sunday.
