The New China Buffet in South Hill has closed.

An "out of business" sign is on the buffet’s door, and there was no answer at the restaurant’s phone number.

The restaurant was an all-you-can-eat buffet with a broad menu of Chinese fare plus sushi.

The restaurant closed about a week ago, said Xavier Dominicci, co-owner of 5 Corners Realty, the company representing the space that is now up for lease. The buffet operated for close to 20 years in that location, although the last owners were not the original owners, he said.

Dominicci said the space already is attracting attention in its first week on the market. The interest has come mostly from restaurants.

“We’ve had a Japanese barbecue and a Mexican place look at it,” he said.

There also was interest from a national chain. Negotiations had not yet begun with any interested party, but Dominicci expects they soon will.

The 5,000-square-foot space is on the larger side for restaurants in the South Hill area with a capacity for up to 150-200 seats.

Dominicci said for the right tenant, the large space at 4215 S. Meridian also could be divided.
