Chef Sam Choy— yes, that Sam Choy — will be at his namesake restaurant in downtown Tacoma from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday (July 31).

The restaurant, Sam Choy’s Poke to the Max, posted about the famous chef’s appearance on its Instagram account.

The Hawaiian restaurant at 1716 Pacific Ave. opened in April 2017 and is an outpost of its sister brick-and-mortar and mobile restaurants in Seattle.

The restaurants were founded by Max Heigh, who counts Choy as a family friend. Choy is a James Beard award-winning chef noted for his contributions to Pacific Rim cuisine.

The Tacoma restaurant specializes in poke, a traditional Hawaiian dish of raw tuna. It also serves Hawaiian favorites, such as plate lunches, kalua pork, musubi and loco moco.
