Order takeout, save animals. Humane Society and local restaurants partner up every Thursday

The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County has partnered with local restaurants on Takeout Thursdays, a promotion to benefit pets and small business.

First up is Brewers Row, the counter-service New Mexican restaurant next to Cooks Tavern in Tacoma’s North End. Today, Aug. 20, a portion of proceeds from your order will benefit the Humane Society. This deal runs all day, and the restaurant offers local delivery within a certain radius.

Next week, Aug. 27, Wooden City will donate a quarter of sales during dinner, 4-9 p.m., to the animal shelter.

Both restaurants were slated to partake in a fundraising event that was canceled due to the pandemic, said development director Ashley Taulbee in a release. Pierce County residents have adopted hundreds of pets since the pandemic began, but the shelter continues to welcome more dogs, cats and critters — 3,293 to be exact.

This campaign will help give these animals shelter, food and medical care.

“Local restaurants and pets in need are two areas of the community that have continued to be affected by the pandemic,” said communications manager Victoria Gingrey in an email.

The Humane Society hopes to continue this Thursday tradition well into the future, she said. Interested restaurants, breweries, coffee shops — anywhere offering eats and drinks for takeaway — can request to participate through a form on the organization’s website.

On Sept. 3 from 9 a.m. to midnight, Doyle’s Public House will send 20 percent of sales from takeout orders. Cielo Restaurant in Auburn will send 10 percent of sales on September 17, and Incline Cider House will follow on Oct. 1.

Dusty’s Hideaway will donate 20 percent of proceeds from takeout orders Oct. 8. Then, on Oct. 15, Ice Cream Social will send 15 percent from in-person and pickup orders.

On Oct. 22, Canyon Coffee Creations, a drive-through coffee stand on 72nd and Waller Road on the Eastside, will send 20 percent of all proceeds.

First up in November, Toscano’s in Puyallup will also donate 20 percent of takeout order sales. The Italian restaurant offers a great selection of family meals to-go.

UPDATED 10/22/20: This post has been updated to reflect additional participating restaurants and bars.
