Known for its all-you-can-eat deal and affordable rolls, Trapper’s Sushi will soon reopen in Tacoma following a four-year construction hiatus.

During a soft opening June 12-13 and a grand opening Monday, June 14, guests registered with the restaurant’s loyalty program can make a reservation to snag half-off all food and drink, excluding alcohol.

“We are so excited to be back open in Tacoma,” said founder and CEO Trapper O’Keefe. “That has to be the number one question customers ask ... ‘When does Tacoma reopen?’”

The 3,500-square-foot restaurant offers a full bar, six large-screen televisions and patio seating. That infamous all-you-can-eat menu — $21.95 at lunch, $31.95 at dinner, available only to guests seated in the sushi bar dining area — will begin when bar seating returns to Washington state June 30.

Trapper’s menu features a few teriyaki and tempura dishes alongside dozens of packed sushi rolls, most $9-$15, with seven vegetarian options. Beloved happy hour deals, including $4 gyoza and $8 rolls, and daily specials — $26 all-day dinner buffet, half-off house sake on Saturdays, free kids meals on Sundays — will also return to Sixth Ave.

“Just like many of you, we have been looking forward to this opening for a long time,” added operations director Farrah Scott. “We have a great team that is ecstatic to see all of the regular customers from the old Sixth Avenue location, and to welcome many, many more.”

In 2017, the Japanese chain’s original Central Tacoma restaurant — a standalone blue building at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Alder Street — was razed to make way for apartments. Trapper’s signed a lease at the time, agreeing to become the anchor tenant for Sixth & Alder.

Construction of the mixed-use development will wrap any day now, according to property manager Brittany Walker. Some tenants began moving in the week of May 17. Leases start at $1,300 for a studio, $1,660 for a one-bedroom and $2,510 for a two-bedroom with two bathrooms, capping out at $3,100. The price rises incrementally for higher levels and based on the number of units per floor.

In addition to the other two commercial units, about three-quarters of the residential apartments remain available to lease.

Trapper’s Parkland restaurant operates in a similar mixed-use building.

The Tacoma opening will bring the company’s Washington state restaurant count to 11, with locations from Kent and Covington to Silverdale, Lacey and Puyallup. O’Keefe started his first business, Sushi Town, in 2004 in Bonney Lake, now another Trapper’s.
