Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with corned beef, stouts and live music in Pierce County
Doyle’s Public House opened at 6 a.m. today to begin its first full-fledged St. Patrick’s Day celebration in three years.
The last night of service before pandemic regulations closed restaurants was Monday, March 16, 2020. In 2021, they were operating at limited capacities and couldn’t promote their usual festivities.
As the state’s mask mandate lifted a few days ago, Doyle’s and many other bars and restaurants around Pierce County are eager for a day — or a few — of revelry with a side of corned beef and cabbage.
Here are a few ideas to get you in the Irish spirit:
▪ Doyle’s Public House, 208 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma: Irish coffee, beer, cocktails and one of the best whiskey selections around await. Also, expertly poured drafts of good ol’ Guinness.
▪ The Camp Bar, 1310 Tacoma Ave. S, Tacoma: $5 pours of Jameson, Slane, and Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey, plus Guinness drafts, 5-8 p.m.
▪ Terry’s Office Tavern, 3410 N Proctor St., Tacoma: Corned beef and cabbage special, while supplies last.
▪ Outpost Sandwiches, 1102 A St., Tacoma: Limited supply of Reubens with corned beef, sauerkraut, Russian dressing, sweet onions and fontina cheese on Macrina rye bread from this great deli in Courthouse Square.
▪ Cooper’s Food and Drink, 5928 N 26th St., Tacoma: Enjoy a Reuben or Irish-themed soup du jour alongside four special cocktails with a green bent, including a julep with Jameson and a grasshopper-esque martini with crème de menthe and cacao. Also, green beer on draft.
▪ Odd Otter Brewing, 716 Pacific Ave., Tacoma: Snag a draft and take home some cans of this downtown brewery’s limited edition Luck O’ the Otter Dry Irish Stout. Plus, $1 from every pint sold in the taproom March 17 will be donated to the International Red Cross and its work in Ukraine.
▪ Lake City Pub, 9106 Veterans Dr. SW, Lakewood: This newly revamped and very cozy Lakewood pub has an Irish platter on special with homemade corned beef brisket and cabbage, served with garlicky red potatoes, caramelized carrots and house Irish soda bread. Add a macaron for $3 and an jello shot in the colors of Ireland’s flag for $5. Live Celtic music starts at 7 p.m. on March 17.
▪ Main Street Bistro, 754 Main St., Buckley: Enjoy live music starting at 6 p.m. at this cozy neighborhood spot in Buckley.
▪ Puget Sound Fire Pipes, select bars in Puyallup and Tacoma: This band of bagpipers and drummers will make their way around Puyallup this weekend, starting with O’Blarney’s Irish Pub on March 17, 12-6 p.m. On Friday, they begin at 4 p.m. at Crockett’s Public House, then make their way to Off Camber Brewing at 5:15 p.m. Around 6:30 p.m., they’ll land at O’Malley’s on Tacoma’s Sixth Avenue, then to Rock the Dock at 7:15 p.m. The night ends at Dunagan Irish Pub in Gig Harbor.
▪ Wet Coast Brewing Co., 6820 Kimball Dr., Gig Harbor: This Gig Harbor brewery is releasing a new dry stout today, made with Thomas Fawcett pale chocolate malt and roasted barley with Willamette hops. Plus, $1 off all pints and $2 off growler fills if you want to keep the party going at home this weekend.
▪ Tides Tavern, 2925 Harborview Dr., Gig Harbor: A trio of specials at Gig Harbor’s waterfront favorite, including a Reuben sandwich and a Reuben in soup form, as well as shepherd’s pie. Also, green beer and of course Guinness on tap.
▪ Dunagan Irish Pub & Brewery, 3222 56th St., Gig Harbor: If you haven’t visited Dunagan’s new digs in Gig Harbor, this weekend is the time. The father-and-son-owned outfit hosts the Gig Harbor Celtic Music Feis, March 17-19. Pre-sale day passes are sold out, but you can still sneak in for food, drink and live music until 1 a.m. each night. (Minors permitted until 9 p.m.)
