The Championship: Vote for best sports bar

The News Tribune

We’ve got ourselves a family face-off.

In the final round of The News Tribune’s sports bar bracket, siblings Terry’s Office Tavern and West End Pub will compete for the title.

Both bars are owned by Helen and Jeff Fraychineaud, who also operate Cole’s Bar & Grill in Ruston, which made it to the Spirited 16, and Hank’s Tavern, which reached the Lush 8. The couple also runs The Parkway, not a sports bar contestant.

Thus, in our arbitrary alphabetical order, a No. 16 seed (West End Pub) and a No. 12 seed (Terry’s) have made it to the finals. A first! if we were talking about the NCAA March Madness tournament that inspired this series.

West End took out Katie Downs Waterfront Tavern with 57 percent of the vote, 183 to 139. It was a good run, but views can’t beat this Sixth Avenue pub.

In a real nail-biter, Terry’s and Beach Tavern almost went to overtime, with a point difference of less than 1 percent. Then the North End neighbor slammed a three-pointer right before the buzzer. Final score: 159 to 156.

Which sibling will rise to the level of Best Sports Bar in Pierce County? Will it be the bar that bills itself as a sports bar, or will the retro dive prove once and for all that age proffers unbeatable wisdom and experience?
