Beer me: Brew events at Tacoma’s Red Hot, Engine House No. 9 and Puyallup River Brewing
Here are three area beer events that you need to put on your to-do list:
RED HOT CHARLESTON BENEFIT: Tacoma’s Red Hot tavern has something neat up its sleeve today (June 25), which is also the first anniversary of the craft beer tavern’s move to its Sixth Avenue location. The tavern is offering a hot dog special called the Chuck Town, a dog based on the Miller family’s experiences eating around Charleston, South Carolina, which is the hometown for the Miller family (Chris and Stu Miller are co-owners of the craft beer tavern). The Chuck Town is made with a pork hot link with the Red Hot’s gold barbecue sauce, homemade pimento cheese and slaw. “That’s where we learned to cook, so many of the items we use (TRH Gold BBQ sauce, our cole slaw, etc.) are based on the local cuisine of the Lowcountry area,” the tavern owners wrote in this blog post. The Red Hot will donate 100 percent of the money generated from the sale of the Chuck Town to The Mother Emanuel Church Hope Fund. Find the tavern at 2914 Sixth Ave., Tacoma; 253-779-0229, redhottacoma.com.
E9 BEER RELEASE: At 8 a.m. Saturday, Tacoma’s Engine House No. 9 will release its latest series of bottled beers. They’re all reasonably small runs of 30 cases or fewer, and there are no purchase limits. They’re ready for immediate consumption, or to be cellared. Saturday’s release will include the Nectarberry Saison, which the brewery described as “a blended multi-year barrel aged ale that sat on nectarberries procured from our friends at Sterino Farms for several months in a stainless tank.” Also ready Saturday will be Le Pelerin, a farmhouse-style saison ale and Ferme Agrume Numbers 1, 2, 3. Those are the “first three of our series of farmhouse ales pairing single hops and single citrus fruits are finally ready in bottles,” announced E9. Find the brewery at 611 N. Pine St., Tacoma; 253-272-3435, ehouse9.com.
PUYALLUP RIVER BREWING MEDAL SHOWCASE: Following the big win at Washington Beer Awards for South Sound brewers, Eric Akeson at Puyallup River Brewing (winner of the small brewer of the year) is organizing a showcase featuring South Sound brewery winners. The event begins at 6 p.m. July 15 at the brewery in downtown Puyallup (120 S. Meridian Ave., Puyallup). Here’s a bit about the event from Akeson, “Eight breweries in the South Sound Craft Crawl earned medals last Saturday at the Washington Beer Awards. On July 15, beer and brewers from all of the breweries will be here to celebrate. Fish Brewing (Large Brewery of the Year), Pacific Brewing and Malting, Puyallup River (Small Brewery of the Year), Wingman Brewers, Harmon, Top Rung, Three Magnets, and Engine House No. 9 will be on tap and personally represented. All in attendance will receive a limited edition poster commemorating the event and achievements of South Sound Beer.” More details here.
