Tacoma treasure: Johnson candy for your Easter basket

The good news: The Johnson Candy Co. had nougat filled chocolate eggs. The bad news: They were out of peanut butter bunny smidgens.

Johnson Candy Co was in a full throttle candy frenzy today. Johnson Candy Co, a Tacoma tradition since 1949,  does brisk business during the week leading up to Easter. The nougat-filled chocolate eggs come in more than a dozen flavors, and sweet nibbles of truffles and dozens of other handmade candies and fudge can be bought at the Hilltop neighborhood chocolate shop. They even have sugar free candy.

I bought candy corn in pretty pastels, a milk chocolate bunny, flower shaped peanut butter filled smidgens (only because they were out of the bunnies) and a peanut butter chocolate egg. Stuffed bunnies, decorative sugar eggs, jelly beans, chocolate covered gummy bears, sweet mints, lollipops, chocolate crosses and bunny ears filled every nook and cranny of the old fashioned candy shop.
