Ah Badabing opens second New York style pizzeria on South Tacoma Way
The Lakewood pizzeria Ah Badabing, specializing in New York style pies, has opened a second location at 5240 South Tacoma Way.
The Tacoma restaurant is off to a slow start with a limited menu and hours for the time being. The pizzeria is focusing on pies for the moment, but expects to add calzones, wings, grinders and other New York style street foods to the menu.
The restaurant is dissected into two spaces, something like the original Lakewood location. At the Tacoma Ah Badabing, enter to the right and find a bar; to the left is a dining room with picnic bench seating. The restaurant is playing it casual, serving pizza on paper plates and soda in a can.
Flashback: It's in the same building that used to be home to Steve's Gay '90s.
Those familiar with the neighborhood know that Stonegate, the rum bar and pizza restaurant, is across the street. While Ah Badabing’s pizzeria will emphasize New York style pizza and street eats, Stonegate serves a style of pizza best described as “traditional Tacoma.” The crust was created by owner Jeff Call’s uncle, Larry Turco, also the man behind Cloverleaf Pizza’s pastry-style pizza crust.
Also in that neighborhood are excellent eating and shopping options, including terrific key lime pie at Edison City Diner; burgers at Patty’s Diner and the Tacoma World Beer store just a few blocks off 56th and South Tacoma Way.
