31-year-old Lakewood Mexican restaurant hasn’t closed. It’s just found a new home
Ramon Fernandez opened Mis Tres Amigos in 1993 in a Lakewood shopping plaza, near a KeyBank branch. Earlier this summer, he and his family left that address, 8013 Steilacoom Blvd., behind.
In May, they announced the Mexican restaurant would move a half-mile west to 8623 87th Ave., an address that would be familiar to longtime followers of Hunan Garden, which closed last year after a three-decade run.
The new Mis Tres Amigos opened in late June, albeit without a liquor license. Drinks and a 21-and-up lounge area — a perk of the move — launched mid-July.
“It’s been 31 years of great memories and we welcome everyone to participate in our new vibrant location that has a cantina/bar,” the family wrote on Instagram in May.
They initially anticipated a brief, two-week hiatus to move equipment and redecorate the old Mandarin and Szechuan restaurant, but ultimately returned June 28. The bar officially landed July 12.
The second Mis Tres Amigos at 17530 Meridian E. in Puyallup, which joined the family in 2003, remains open.
The vast menus cover tons of territory, including flautas, taquitos, menudo and entree-sized fajita salads. There are tacos, combination platters and burritos, including ones filled with pork and guacamole or chile Colorado-style steak.
Both locations offer catering, with both a dinner and breakfast option starting at $150 for 10 people.
