Tacoma pizza guide: Here are the highest-rated pizza places by neighborhood

Tacoma isn’t cram-full of pizza places as much as some other cities, especially on the East Coast, but it’s got some good pies nonetheless.

We’ve rounded up the highest-rated pizza joints on Yelp by neighborhood. Some neighborhoods have an abundance of options to choose from, while in others, it’s slim pickings.

We want to hear your thoughts. What restaurants do you think have the best pizza in Tacoma? Do you agree with Yelp or think some other restaurants should make the list?

North End

Salamone’s Pizza

A small pizza shop just up the street from Stadium High School, Salamone’s serves New York-style slices and whole 18-inch pies. Along with Classic Cheese, Pepperoni and White Pizza, the house pies include the Chelsea, which has ricotta, mozzarella, pepperoni, artichoke hearts and olives, along with the Bronx Bomber, which has a tomato base, mozzarella, capicola ham, prosciutto, salami and house-made sausage. Salamone’s also has a location called Slice Garden in Fircrest on Regents Boulevard.

Hank’s Pizza and Beer

This neighborhood bar serves up a wide range of pizzas, and each pie is available as a calzone. That includes the K-Street Kicker with white sauce, mozzarella, chicken, bacon, pineapple and jalapeño, and The Bee-Boy with hot honey dijon, mozzarella, bacon, house-made bruschetta and spring onion. You can also build your own pizza with a variety of toppings.

Fondi Pizzeria

This pizzeria in the Proctor District, which first opened in Gig Harbor before adding a Tacoma location, offers Neapolitan-style pies. There are several classic pizzas and specialty pizzas, including the Pear Prosciutto with balsamic syrup, herbed oil and thyme, and the Gustosa with herbed oil, pancetta, caramelized onions, artichoke hearts, verde sauce, house-made fresh mozzarella, gorgonzola and basil. You can also sub gluten-free crust or vegan mozzarella.

New Tacoma/downtown

The Crafty Beaver Bar

This downtown bar and restaurant offers flatbread-style pies like the Chicken Bacon Caesar with Caesar dressing, pizza cheese, chicken, bacon and arugula; the Arugula Pear with goat cheese, pizza cheese, pear, arugala and hot honey; and the Fig & Prosciutto with fig jam, feta, pizza cheese, prosciutto, arugula and balsamic.

Wooden City

This slightly more upscale restaurant downtown serves a selection of wood-fired pizzas. Along with the classic Cheese, Pepperoni and Veggie, Wooden City offers a Sausage and Mushroom pie with red onion, red bell peppers and garlic; a Bacon Pesto Pie with mozzarella, gorgonzola and aged balsamic; and a Vegan pie with roasted veggies, vegan aioli, almonds and herbs. You can add prosciutto to any pizza for $4.

E9 Brewing Co.

This 21+ brewery and pizza parlor offers 14-inch pies with house-made dough that uses yeast from E9 Brewing’s wild beer yeast strain, then gets fermented and cooked in a custom apple wood-burning pizza oven. The pizzas are anything but basic — the Winter Vegetarian pizza has carrot and parsnip curry, mozzarella cheese, cucumber, red onion, mushrooms, cilantro and herbed yogurt drizzle, while the Upper White Trash has white sauce, mozzerella, bacon and sweet onions, topped with romano cheese and crushed corn nuts.

Northeast Tacoma

Jet’s Pizza

This national chain serves Detroit-style square pizza — aka deep dish pizza with chewy crust and crispy edges — along with wings, calzones and salads. Jet’s offers build-your-own pies and specialty pizzas like the Eugene Supreme with pizza sauce, mozzarella, Italian sausage, onions, green peppers and mild peppers, and the Popcorn Buffalo Ranch Chicken with popcorn chicken, mozzarella, bacon, red onions, ranch and mild buffalo sauce.

Galileo’s Pizzeria

This mobile pizzeria moves around quite a bit, but is usually stationed multiple times a month at North 47 Brewing Co. in Browns Point. The menu is always changing but usually includes Neapolitan-style pizza like traditional Margherita and pepperoni pies. Other pies that have appeared on the menu include the Capricciosa with tomato sauce, mozzarella, artichokes, mushrooms, ham and olives, and the Potato & Rosemary with white cream sauce, potato, ham, rosemary and mozzarella. You can find where Galileo’s is parked for the day on its website.

Eastside

Parky’s Pizza Bar

This casual pizza joint ferments its dough for five days to make its affordable Neapolitan-style pizzas, which use a combination of wet and dry mozzarella. Pies include the Taco with taco meat, a three-cheese blend, jalapeño, pickled onion, lettuce, tomato, Parky’s salsa sour cream and El Pato hot sauce, and the Italian with pepperoni, prosciutto, Italian sausage, black olives, red onion and red sauce. Most of the pizzas are available as calzones.

Slice of Life Deli & Pizzeria

This laid-back spot in Fern Hill has a wide variety of 16-inch and 18-inch pies. The Slice Special pizza comes with pepperoni, pepperoncini and pineapple, while the Meat Lovers comes with pepperoni, salami, sausage, bacon and honey ham. Slice of Life offers vegan mozzarella. Along with full pies, there’s cheese and pepperoni slices, two topping slices and specialty slices.

Tami’s in Tacoma

This laid-back bar has a large menu including a variety of 7-inch and 12-inch pizzas. The menu includes pies like the Yakimonster with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, mushroom, olives, green pepper and onion and the Pollo Pesto with basil pesto sauce, grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts.

South End

Round Table Pizza

This chain has locations throughout the West Coast, including another Tacoma location on North Pearl Street. All pizzas come in sizes ranging from personal to extra large. You can build your own pie or choose from a selection of specialty pizzas, including the King Arthur’s Supreme with pepperoni, Italian sausage, salami, linguica, mushroom, green peppers, onions and black olives, or the Maui Zaui with ham, bacon, pineapple, tomatoes, red and green onions with Polynesian sauce.

Papa Murphy’s

This Washington-based chain offers take ‘n’ bake pizzas that customers can heat up at home. It has three other locations in Tacoma. Pizza sizes range from 12-inch to 16-inch, and Papa Murphy’s offers create-your-own pizzas, specialty pizzas, calzones and stuffed pizzas. You can choose between original crust, thin crust, gluten-free crust or crustless (a keto-friendly tray of meats, sauce, toppings and cheese). Specialty pizzas include the Thai Chicken with grilled chicken, zucchini, onions, cheddar, mozzarella, red pepper flakes and Thai sweet chili sauce, and the Chicken Bacon Artichoke with grilled chicken, bacon, marinated artichoke hearts, spinach, herbs, mozzarella, Parmesan and garlic sauce.

South Tacoma

The Tipsy Tomato Bar & Kitchen

This dive bar is known for its unique pizza options, aka the “Let’s Get Weird” toppings. Sauce options include SpaghettiOs, mayo and honey mustard, while cheese options include brie, pepper jack and feta. You can experiment with toppings like Cool Ranch Doritos, Funyuns or Cheetos. There’s also the Chef’s Special, which is whatever the chef decides to create for you.

Cerello’s Pizza, Wine Cafe

Cerello’s claims to have the best pizza in South Tacoma, with an option of 8-inch, 12-inch or 14-inch pies and hand-tossed crust or thin crust. Along with build-your-own pizzas, Cerello’s has a large selection of specialty pizzas, like the Chicken Alfredo Pizza with chicken, spinach, garlic, mushrooms, mozzarella and Alfredo sauce, and the Potato Gold pizza with bacon, potato, mushroom, onion, garlic, green pepper cheddar and ranch. There are gluten-free and cauliflower crusts available.

Central/6th Ave

State Street Beer Co.

This neighborhood bar serves 12-inch Neapolitan-style pies. Along with classic Margherita and Cheese, there’s the Pickled Grape pizza with olive oil, mozzarella, speck (cured pork), ricotta, pickled grape, red onion and grana padano (Italian cheese), and the Vegan pizza with olive oil, rosemary, almond ricotta, chickpeas, artichoke hearts, capers, basil, arugula and lemon slices. You can sub gluten-free crust for any pizza. Note that State Street does in-person orders only, no phone or online orders.

Bar Rosa

This cocktail bar in Hilltop offers 12-inch Neapolitan-style pies, served with scissors to cut slices. There are quite a few unique options, like the Black & Bleu with rosemary béchamel, gorgonzola, garlic confit, sirloin, fresh kale, lemon and chili flakes, and the Vesuvio with provolone cream, oregano, chili oil, red onion, wine-roasted crimini mushrooms with shallots, prosciutto, pecorino Romano and fresh burrata. You can also request side sauces like Caesar dressing, chili honey and lemon cayenne aioli. Note that Bar Rosa only takes to-go orders in person, not on the phone or online.

Tacoma Pie

This pizza joint describes its pies as a mash-up of Sicilian, Grandma and Detroit-style pies. The sauce has a hint of spice, the crusts have crispy edges and all pizzas come uncut (but can be cut upon request). Tacoma Pie recommends you reheat your pie at home at 350 degrees for 5 to 10 minutes. You can build your own pie or choose a specialty offering like the Vito with pancetta, cherry peppers, roast garlic and green onion, or the Maui with roasted pineapple, capicola and balsamic onions. Tacoma Pie also offers vegan cheese.

West End

Cooper’s Food & Drink

This bar and restaurant with another location in Lacey offers a wide-ranging menu, including a few different options of pizza and flatbread. Pizzas include Gouda + Mushroom with a whipped feta base, smoked gouda, mushrooms and a spicy honey glaze, and Pepperoni + Caramelized Onion with pepperoni, marinara, mozzarella and caramelized onions. There are also some inventive flatbreads, like the Chimichurri with marinara, spinach, onions, mozzarella, tomatoes, chicken and house-made chimichurri, and the Brussels + Bacon with caramelized onions, roasted brussels sprouts, bacon, goat cheese and balsamic glaze.

The Cloverleaf

The Cloverleaf offers build-your-own pizzas in 8-inch, 11-inch or 16-inch, and specialty pizzas in 11-inch and 16-inch. Specialty pies include the Bacon Cheeseburger with secret sauce, mozzarella, cheddar, hamburger, bacon, tomato, raw onion and pickle, and the Funk with sausage, mushroom and onion. The Cloverleaf offers gluten-free crust and vegan cheese.

The Loose Wheel

This sports pub, which has another location in Puyallup, offers a selection of pizzas plus a build-your-own option. The Taco pizza comes with a salsa ranch dressing base, seasoned beef, a shredded cheese blend, and black beans, topped with lettuce, tomatoes and green onions, while the Double Pepperoni pizza comes with “pepperoni, pepperoni, and pepperoni.” All pizzas are available with a gluten-free cauliflower crust.
