Dumpling restaurant has opened ahead of schedule at Tacoma Mall
Supreme Dumplings, one of several anticipated additions to Tacoma Mall, has opened a few months ahead of schedule.
The Bellevue-born brand, often considered a direct competitor to the überpopular Din Tai Fung, was one of several new restaurants at the mall’s new Village development slated for a Fall 2026 debut — joining the recently opened Happy Lamb Hot Pot, Dave’s Hot Chicken and Shake Shack. Over the weekend, the restaurant shared on social media soft-opening dates of June 8-12 (receive a free nonalcoholic drink during that span) and a grand opening of Saturday, June 13.
The menu hinges on thinly wrapped dumplings with various combinations of pork, shrimp, crab, wagyu beef and chicken. Most are eight to an order for $12-$16. Sweet xiao long bao feature taro, chocolate and matcha “lava,” served as a six-pack for $9-$12.
Other dishes — nothing over $22 and most under $19 — dig into specialties like Chinese-braised pork belly or tofu in broth, fried rice with a formidable-looking pork chop, tan tan noodles and cold Taiwanese noodles with poached chicken and veg, as well as hot-and-sour soup and pancake rolls.
Founder Brandon Ting, a Taiwanese American who first moved to Bellevue as a student, is also behind Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya, a chain with 16 locations across the U.S. — including one at Tacoma Mall. The first Supreme Dumplings landed in Bellevue in 2022, followed by expansions to Kirkland, Seattle’s South Lake Union, San Francisco and a suburb of Houston, Texas. After Tacoma, the brand is working to open new restaurants in Redmond and Honolulu, Hawaii.
In Bellevue, the debut drew such long lines that it expanded into the neighboring unit at Bellevue Marketplace, the Seattle Times reported. The paper’s trio of food writers have likewise praised the restaurant as a Top-10 destination for Chinese and Taiwanese food in a changed Bellevue now booming with options.
When one opened in San Francisco — not exactly a city starving for soup dumplings — anxious diners waited around two hours to get a seat.
Expect intense interest at the new Supreme Dumplings in Tacoma, a city that is kind of the opposite — a.k.a. not swimming in xiao long bao. Most fans of the dumpling style would have previously implored you to travel north, at least to Federal Way, to satiate a craving.
Ting has been doubling-down on his adopted home state, according to a press statement. More locations in the region and across the country are likely, and the company just announced a frozen wholesale operation at the annual National Restaurant Show, a major trade meet-up for large and up-and-coming brands alike.
Find the new Tacoma Mall location directly across the sidewalk from Dave’s Hot Chicken, on the same side of the plaza as Happy Lamb Hot Pot.
