Potato-themed, family-friendly restaurant coming soon to 6th Ave bar
A Sixth Ave bar has been closed recently as new kitchen managers plan a revamped menu focused on super-loaded baked potatoes.
Pizza Time Pub at 2710 6th Ave. closed last weekend to make way for Overflo Potato, both business owners confirmed to TNT Diner this week.
“We are excited to confirm that we are taking over the bar on 6th Avenue and finally bringing Overflo Potato to a brick-and-mortar location,” Destiny Hawkins, co-owner of Overflo Potato, said in an email. “While we are keeping the bar, our goal is to create a welcoming, family-friendly vibe that everyone can enjoy while still offering alcohol. We have been working on Overflo for almost three years now and are thrilled to take this next step.”
The potato business has been operating as a street vendor since 2024, most recently stationed alongside other food tents in the parking lot of Wane + Flitch, 701 E. 72nd St., near the intersection with McKinley Avenue. The tie to Pizza Time has some history, as Hawkins and her husband did a pop-up at the bar over Memorial Day in 2025.
Carmine Hawkins said the theme of Overflo Potato stems from his upbringing in New Orleans, where loaded spuds are common, he told TNT Diner in a phone call. He moved to the Tacoma area in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and met Destiny. While working at local clubs, he said, his hankering for such a stuffed starch never ceased, so they built it themselves.
“The whole brand is basically potato-themed,” said Carmine, referencing their desserts of sweet potato pie and a cinnamon-swirl sweet potato cake.
On Monday, a post on Pizza Time’s Instagram page teased, “We’re refreshing things behind the scenes — new look, same Pizza Time you love. We’ll be back soon with all the details.”
Pizza Time is a franchise; the Tacoma owners, who also have a Pizza Time in SeaTac, took over what was previously Half Pint Pizza Pub in 2024, as neighboring bar The Alleycat became The Backyard and then The Porch Light.
They were looking to move on as the Hawkins “were looking for space,” said Carmine.
The Tacoma Pizza Time has hosted trivia, music bingo, comedy, game nights and other events, while serving pizzas, calzones, sandwiches, wings, salad and breadsticks. Some of the pizza will still be available, but the menu will add Overflo Potato’s signatures, which include a steak-and-cheese, a chicken-bacon-ranch, and the namesake — “when you want everything on a potato” — with steak, chicken, bacon, broccoli and cheese.
They might expand on the notion of potatoes in the future, they said, and they plan to flip the bar-to-food ratio. Their concept will be family-friendly with more of a focus on the food than the bar.
Overflo Potato plans to soft-launch hopefully by July. They will refresh the space a bit in the coming months and hope to have a grand opening in August.
