Pierce County deputies take on tiny dancers in ‘lip synch challenge’

The three sons of slain Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel McCartney are featured in a “lip synch challenge” video the department released Friday.

For the past several months, law enforcement agencies have been challenging each other to create lip synch videos featuring department members dancing and mouthing the words to popular songs.

“All summer we waited and waited and waited,” the Sheriff’s Department said on Facebook. The challenge, however, never came.

“So we kept on doing what we do best — catching bad guys, busting drug dealers, solving big crimes, filming COPS TV,” the Sheriff’s Department said. “And then a challenge like no other came from where we least expected it…”

The challenge, the video implies, came from a group of prepubescent girl dancers after Detective Gary Sanders checks on a noise complaint.

“There’s no dancing in Pierce County,” Sanders says in his best rendition of “Footloose.”

The showdown between the tough-guy cops and the tiny dancers happens outside Cheney Stadium.

Standing with the deputies and dressed in matching police uniforms are Traxton, Tate and Tytus McCartney. Their father was killed Jan. 8 after responding to a home invasion robbery near Frederickson.

Later in the video, the boys and girls have switched to Rainiers uniforms and cut loose with Rhubarb, the Rainiers’ mascot.
