A hotel might rise across from Old City Hall — and it’s not McMenamins
A Seattle hotel investment company bought two Tacoma parcels south of the Elks Lodge and west of Old City Hall for $1.8 million last week.
Hotel Concepts owns more than a dozen properties in the Northwest, including the Holiday Inn Express and Suites at 2102 S. C St.
The company did not return a request for details about its plans for the newly bought properties.
Together the two parcels in the Old City Hall Historic District amount to nearly half an acre in downtown Tacoma’s commercial core.
City zoning allows for a hotel to be built on those parcels, with a maximum height limit of 400 feet. Many of Hotel Concepts are five stories or below.
So far the company has not filed permits with the city.
Portland developer McMenamins has plans to turn the Elks Lodge into a brew pub and destination hotel. That company also has designs on Old City Hall, but recently told the city it can pursue other developers.
