Tacoma’s Party World will close at the end of September.

The party supply and rental shop, at 1565 Center St., will mark its last day Sept. 30, according to owner Carole Rockne.

Her parents started the store in 1979, and Rockne came on board in 1994.

“It’s been a great run,” she said Monday in a phone interview.

The building housing Party World came on the market a year ago, Rockne said, and she knew that eventually she’d have to make a decision on the store’s future.

The building hasn’t sold yet, but with competition in the area, “it doesn’t pencil out to consider moving,” she said.

The store’s closure was announced before Labor Day. Rockne said the response from customers has been overwhelming.

“People come in and tell us how their grandmother used to take them here,” she said.

“We want to give a shout-out to all the customers through the years,” she said. “... We’re grateful we’ve been here to serve them.”

Updates on the store will be posted on its Facebook page and its website, partywedding.com, which offers more details on the liquidation.
