New venture changing how MultiCare patients will get physical therapy

Changes are coming in the spring for those who receive physical therapy through MultiCare.

The health system is entering into a joint venture with Olympic Sports & Spine Rehabilitation, a Pierce County company.

“The joint venture is a separate company called Olympic Sports & Spine,” according to a statement from MultiCare, which will handle outpatient physical rehabilitation for the health system’s patients.

The new organization will include 14 clinics across Pierce and South King counties.

“All existing MultiCare outpatient rehabilitation clinics will close, and the new company will open its own facilities,” according to the health system.

“Some of the new clinics may be at or near locations previously occupied by either OSSR or MultiCare, and some will move into new facilities.”

The venture “will increase access to care for patients and expand the outpatient rehabilitation services network,” according to MultiCare.

The plan, once in operation, is for patients to be referred to clinics most convenient for them.

MultiCare says its 66 affected full-time and part-time employees have been notified of the changes and that Olympic Sports & Spine has extended offers to current MultiCare and OSSR employees.

Olympic Sports & Spine Rehabilitation started in 1984 in Puyallup and has grown to seven clinics serving Gig Harbor, Lakewood, University Place, Spanaway, Tacoma, Puyallup and the South Hill area.

When finalized, locations will be listed on Olympic Sports & Spine website and MultiCare’s website.
