Seattle’s Northwest Hospital rebranded as second UW medical campus

The start of 2020 saw the rebranding of University of Washington Medical Center’s second official medical campus in Seattle.

Northwest Hospital, 1550 N. 115th St. not far from the Northgate Mall area, is now officially UW Medical Center Northwest.

The current UW medical campus has been renamed UW Medical Center — Montlake.

Northwest opened in 1960 and became affiliated with UW Medicine in late 2009.

Northwest employees are now UW employees, and many of the hospital’s doctors have joined the UW Physicians practice group, according to the university in a Dec. 31 announcement.

The integration merged billing, payroll and patient’s medical records under one system.

The services “that Northwest Hospital has offered the community for nearly 60 years will continue with even greater access to specialty care,” Cindy Hecker, executive director of University of Washington Medical Center, said in the announcement.

Hecker, in a video interview, said that along with improving care access to patients, the second campus will allow for expanding and growing services.

“Some of the areas that we’ll be focusing on are cardiology, orthopedics, urology, otolaryngology. There’s many specialties that we’re really excited about growing and being a part of UW Medical Center allows us to do that,” she said.

Planning for the integrated operations started in 2017, and the university’s Board of Regents approved the proposal in early 2018, to “better align clinical programs and improve patient care, create financial and administrative efficiencies, and reduce cost,” UW said in its release.
