Tacoma-area ZIP codes among most expensive for car insurance; Key Pen among the cheapest
Where you live in Pierce County can affect the rate you pay for car insurance by hundreds of dollars.
That’s according to figures provided Thursday by Austin-based independent insurance rate comparison site The Zebra.
Rates in the Seattle-Tacoma metro area have risen 27 percent since 2011 and 9 percent from last year, according to the site.
Average annual premium for the Seattle-Tacoma area is $1,594, which is lower than Portland, Oregon ($1,694), and San Francisco ($1,887) but higher than the average for Washington state as a whole ($1,368) and the United States ($1,548)

The study reviewed 167 ZIP codes and 99 cities in the Seattle-Tacoma metro. Nationwide, it reviewed 73 million car insurance premiums across every ZIP code as affected by variables such as driver age, gender, driving record, financial behaviors, and the cars themselves.
Who’s among the most affordable nationwide? Boise, Idaho, which ranked No. 7 at $1,044 average annual rate.
