Pier 1 closing several stores in Washington, including Tacoma site
After an early-year announcement that Pier 1 would be closing nearly half of its locations, those sites are now being revealed by media tracking deletions from the company’s store list.
A worker at the Tacoma Pier 1 store, 4301 S. Steele St. near the Tacoma Mall, confirmed over the phone on Friday with The News Tribune that it was one of the sites closing.
The worker, who did not identify herself, said the store’s last day was most likely “sometime in April.”
Pier 1 stores in Shoreline and Redmond also are set to close, according to representatives at those sites contacted by The News Tribune on Friday. Shoreline also noted its closure would be in April.
On Friday, Business Insider showed the Tacoma Pier 1 store among more than 270 it had found deleted from the company’s website. The company plans on shuttering as many as 450 stores.
A store in Everett and another in Federal Way also were on that closure list.
The report said Pier 1 later confirmed via social media that sites closing had been removed.
Workers who answered at the Olympia, Gig Harbor and Puyallup stores told The News Tribune that their sites would remain open.
A search on the Pier 1 website defaults to the Gig Harbor store when Olympia and Puyallup store ZIP codes are entered.
UPDATE 1-24-20: Late Friday, Jennifer Engstrand Reeder, director of communications for Pier 1, told The News Tribune via email the DuPont distribution facility is not slated for closure.
