Trampoline park planned for Lakewood Towne Center
A new trampoline park is planned for Lakewood.
Altitude Trampoline Parks, with operations in Marysville and Spokane, will open its next site at the former GI Joe’s site, 5831 Main St. SW. at Lakewood Towne Center.
The indoor park made its announcement in a January Facebook post.
“Altitude Trampoline Parks are the world’s premier trampoline facilities that offer fun and exercise for people of all ages,” the post stated.
The business, started in 2012, is franchised with headquarters in Southlake, Texas. Its first location opened in April 2013 in Fort Worth, with more than 100 in operation or planned worldwide.
One industry analysis from 2019 noted that the $380 million global trampoline market was expected to become a $460 million market worldwide by the end of 2025.
The sites often are replacements for long-gone anchor tenants at malls, as more malls go for “experiential” tenants to still accommodate families seeking entertainment.
According to information provided by the City of Lakewood: “This will be a major tenant improvement. ... Altitude Trampoline has indoor trampolines, basketball hoops, foam pits, rock climbing walls for kids, dodgeball leagues and a snack bar.”
Mike LaRocco, site operator, told The News Tribune via email that while initial projections were for a July opening, “July is looking more like August, too early to tell for sure at this point.
“We are going to fill the space with many trampoline events. Group, interactive and competitive based activities as well as a ropes course. We will also have kids court and soft play area for the smaller ones.”
According to Becky Newton, the city’s economic development manager, “We are reviewing the plans now and offer expedited building permit review as needed. ... The key will be Pierce County sewer approval.”
The indoor trampoline sports site joins other such sites in the Seattle-Tacoma area, including Defy Tacoma (rebranded from earlier plans to open as Sky Zone), which opened in March 2019 at 1680 S. Mildred St. in Tacoma.
