Idea for cloth face mask: McMenamins selling Elks Temple Star-design bandana

McMenamins Elks Temple in Tacoma may be closed amid the coronavirus outbreak, but that doesn’t mean its owners aren’t willing to find ways to indulge its local fans.

One of its now-featured offerings on its online store is Elks Temple Star bandana, selling for $7.95.

While the bandanna joins the site’s other Elks Temple-branded items, homemade cloth masks have gained special prominence in the pandemic.

The cloth masks were recommended for the general public last week by the CDC to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the listing:

“A unique bandana sporting the star from Elks Temple in Tacoma. Threads of art, history and elements of the local community are woven into the building, and now you can wear a piece of that art tied fashionably around your neck, as a head covering or, may we suggest, as the coolest mask ever?”

The family-owned operator of regional entertainment hubs temporarily closed its Washington and Oregon sites March 17 as Washington restaurants and bars were shut down to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

McMenamins in the days following turned its focus to online sales in the interim. Its Portland bottle shop is open, and curbside pickups of online wine orders are allowed at its Edgefield site in Troutdale, Oregon.

Its digital store sells an array of items, from hats (including one with an Elks Temple patch), tiki mugs, coaster sets and more.

McMenamins opened the Elks Temple in April 2019, after years of planning and renovations.
