Emerald Queen Casino in Fife reopening next week; new I-5 site to open in June
The Puyallup Tribe on Thursday announced a reopening date for its Emerald Queen Casino in Fife and grand opening for its new casino in June.
The Fife site is set to reopen at 10 a.m. Monday, May 18. In a statement, the tribe described it as a “phased reopening.”
“This Council has emphasized health and safety since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. We took decisive action to protect our community .... and we have repeatedly said that when we reopen our casino operations, which closed March 16, we will do so safely and responsibly,” according to the statement.
Entrance to the casino will be limited to 30 percent capacity, and the hotel will remain closed in the first phase.
“We will check temperatures of everyone entering our doors and expect people to wear masks,” the statement said. “Our staff will clean the casino continuously, they will limit the availability of food, and they will expect staff and guests alike to maintain social distancing.”
The announcement recommends patrons bring their cell phones “in case we need to put you on a waiting list.” In addition to masks, it said it expected patrons to also wear gloves.
As for the new, $400 million Emerald Queen I-5 casino in Tacoma, it is set to open in early June. No specific date was listed.
“That will be truly exciting news, something our membership, customers and community have looked forward to for many years,” the tribe said in its statement.
