New medical clinic opens in Puyallup, downtown Tacoma Starbucks closes, movies are back

MultiCare opened a new primary clinic in Puyallup on Oct. 12.

The MultiCare Family Medicine & Maternity Care clinic is at 220 15th Ave. SE, Suite B.

In a release announcing the opening of the 3,600-square-foot facility, Multicare said the clinic “will initially staff two family medicine obstetricians and grow to six full-time providers.”

“Our goal is to become a trusted medical home base for families living in the Puyallup and East Pierce County areas,” Dr. Veronica Hooper, physician executive of Primary Care at MultiCare said in the release. “We’re not only dedicated to creating the safest possible care environment for patients on site, but also making virtual appointments available for those who don’t require in-person care.”

Its hours of operations will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More Puyallup happenings

The Pink Chandelier, a home decor and gift shop in downtown Puyallup, planned to open its doors Oct. 17 after previously being closed.

With new ownership, the business will keep the same name and offer “complimentary coffee, cider and Pink Champagne cupcakes” during its opening event Oct. 17-18.

The previous owners opened the store in August 2017.

It had previously been the home of Baskets & Things, a flower and gift shop.

A Tacoma Starbucks closes

The Starbucks at 1101 Pacific Avenue in Tacoma’s Key Bank Plaza closed its doors Friday, October 16.

Employees were offered an opportunity to relocate to other Starbucks locations in Tacoma or take a leave of absence.

Starbucks announced June 10 it would be closing 400 stores in the next 18 months as part of an attempt to shift towards on-the-go service during COVID-19.

It previously had not released the list of stores it planned to close.

New Gig Harbor bookshop

Invitation Bookshop in Gig Harbor is now open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All customers visiting the store are required to wear a mask, and occupancy will be limited to eight at a time.

The store also offers pickup and shipping options to people outside of Gig Harbor.

Movie theaters reopen

Movie theaters reopened Oct. 16, with the Century Point Ruston in Tacoma and the AMC Lakewood Mall 12 in Lakewood resuming showing films.

The locations have a mask mandate when not actively eating concessions and will operate at reduced capacity to practice social distancing.

The theaters will be showing new releases such as “The War With Grandpa” as well as throwback films like “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Hocus Pocus.”
