Sumner clothing store opens; downtown Tacoma cafe closes; HomeGoods opens in Tukwila

7 Seas Brewing has moved — 0.2 miles down the road.

The 11-year-old brewery opened its waterfront taproom in Gig Harbor on March 17, located at 2905 Harborview Dr.

The new taproom, open daily 11 a.m.-9 p.m., boasts a view of the Gig Harbor Lighthouse and Mount Rainier, and soon will feature a dock for boats, paddle boards and kayaks.

Since 2012, owners Mike Runion and Travis Guterson operated a taproom at 3006 Judson St., in the Peninsula Shopping Center.

“You may remember a few years back when we announced the move and redevelopment of the site,” they wrote in a Facebook post last week. “Adaptation and patience have been the mantra of these past interesting months, and in that same spirit, we have decided to make the move sooner rather than later.”

Head to TNT Diner for details on the new taproom.

WOMEN’S BOUTIQUE OPENS IN SUMNER

Downtown Sumner welcomes a “couture boutique,” was set to open March 20 at 921 Kincaid Ave.

Mode describes itself as a place for women of all ages.

“We believe fashion and outfits can affect a woman’s confidence and we want to bring out their authentic smile through our clothing,” it states on Facebook.

The company launched last year as an online-only business, stocking everything from clothing to accessories like purses, hats and these days, face masks.

DOWNTOWN TACOMA CAFE CLOSES

The Evergreen Cafe, a family business in downtown Tacoma, has closed after eight years at 1423 Pacific Ave.

“We did not come to this decision lightly or easily,” the owners — Holly Austin, Bredl and Kolin Springs, and Morgan Valdez — wrote on social media March 9. “We fought … boy did we fight.”

In a message to The News Tribune, they said they needed time to mourn the loss of their business.

The cafe remained open for takeout and delivery through DoorDash when restaurants were closed last spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but downtown foot traffic struggled to recoup with few office workers and museum visitors throughout 2020. After a December feature on Q13, the Seattle affiliate of Fox, they saw an influx of customers the next day.

“The private battles are often the toughest, and we understand we are just another casualty in this uncertain time but when you are going through it, the noise becomes quiet for a moment and feels personal,” they posted in the closing announcement.

BLEACH IN TACOMA CLOSING

After 11 years in downtown Tacoma, Bleach, an apparel store focusing on skate apparel and Tacoma-themed garb, will shutter its storefront at Pacific Avenue. Its last day in business will be March 27.

Until then, all Bleach branded items will be 20 percent off, while other brands will be 40 percent off and the sale rack 60 percent off.

Stocklist Goods, the neighboring gift shop, will take over the space with a new concept, according to Bleach’s Instagram post. Fans of the Bleach line of Tacoma T-shirts, hats and children’s gear can still shop online at bleachlife.com and at Stocklist.

“This transition will allow us to focus on developing our branded product,” the company wrote in an Instagram post announcing the brick-and-mortar shutter. “It’s been a long run of fun, friends and community.”

NEW HOMEGOODS OPENS IN TUKWILA

A new HomeGoods store has opened in Park Place Shopping Center, 17501 Southcenter Parkway, Tukwila. The store’s grand opening was March 18, and offers delivery services from the store for a limited area. The store’s hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
