It’s not just Amazon making a splash in Fife with a new development.

Planning documents submitted to the city of Fife show a new Tesla dealership is also in the works.

The dealership would be at 3701 20th St. E., along Interstate 5 and the former site of Larson Powersports Northwest.

According to tenant improvement plans filed in May, the project envisions a Tesla auto sales and electric vehicle service center at the 61,247-square-foot site. Plans for the existing building call for a new interior layout, service area, paint booth and more.

The tenant improvement permit was approved in August and issued Oct. 13. The project is ongoing with further permits in the works.

Kelsey Geddes, media representative for the city of Fife, told The News Tribune in response to questions via email on Tuesday, “We don’t have an indication of an opening date.”

MI - Fife Owner LLC, representing Miramar Capital of Santa Monica, a real estate asset manager and investment firm, purchased the property Sept. 28 from Drake Motor Partners Four LLC of Denver, for $28.5 million.

Miramar lists the project on its website under “current projects” as “Tesla Tacoma.”

Miramar did not respond to a request for comment.

Drake Motor Partners Four, led by Jon Hauser, submitted the original Tesla dealership permit plans to Fife. Earlier this year, Drake Real Estate Services, of which Hauser is a managing partner, also filed plans for a Tesla vehicle sales and maintenance facility in Liberty Lake near Spokane, which broke ground in July, and a site in Vancouver, Washington.

The Tacoma project generated early attention on an online Tesla Motors Club community in July when a member posted diagrams of the site.

“This will be very visible to the people stuck in the traffic jam on I-5,” wrote one commenter.

The auto manufacturer already has eight locations in the state, mostly in and around the Seattle metro.

The development plans were first reported Monday by the Puget Sound Business Journal.
