New golf teaching center in works for first Pierce County location in Tacoma Mall area
Local golfers, you soon could have a new place to indulge your love of the game.
Englewood, Colorado-based Golftec has plans to open a new center later this year in Tacoma at the Rainier Place Shopping Center.
The location would be just down the steps from REI, and next to Pho 38th restaurant.
The company is working on lease arrangements, according to C.J. Perry, Golftec regional marketing manager. The shopping center also is home to Dollar Tree and Half Price Books.
“We’re still in the very early stages since we’re still working toward an executed lease,” Perry told The News Tribune in response to questions via email.
“The loosely planned opening date, which could change, is for early September. We’ll have a better idea once the lease is executed and we begin construction,” Perry added.
A representative for the shopping center declined comment on the lease talks.
Plans filed with the city call for tenant improvement to turn 3,316 square feet into the new golf center. The company offers golf instruction and club fitting.
The company listed July in its permit filing as its anticipated start date for the project.
Golftec’s first training center opened in 1995 in Denver, and it has grown to 200 centers around the world, including locations in King County and one in Spokane. This would be its first location in Pierce County.
Perry told The News Tribune on Tuesday, “We’ve wanted to open a location in Tacoma for a little while now as we know how much the area is growing and how big the demand for golf is there.”
He added: “We currently have a location in Tukwila and now want a Golftec Training Center much closer to/in Tacoma.”
