$5K grants available for Tacoma women- or BIPOC-owned businesses. Here’s how to apply
Female and BIPOC business owners in Tacoma can apply for a grant and have a chance to receive $5,000, the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber announced Monday.
The Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber has partnered with the city of Tacoma and Comcast to create the Thrive Tacoma Business Fund. The initiative aims to disperse $100,000 to local for-profit businesses in the form of 20 $5,000 grants, which will provide direct support to struggling shops impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Comcast provided funding for the grant. TPCC is partnering with Asia Pacific Cultural Center, Mi Centro and The Black Collective to disperse funds. Grant awardees will be chosen via a random lottery system.
Businesses have until Aug. 31 to apply. They also must meet all of the following requirements to be considered for the Thrive Tacoma Business Fund:
The business must be physically located in Tacoma’s city limits – nearby areas like Fircrest, University Place and Parkland do not qualify. To check if your business is within city limits, view the City of Tacoma’s address check webpage. Home-based and mobile businesses are eligible.
The majority (at least 51%) of your business ownership must identify as women or BIPOC.
The business must consist of 15 employees or fewer.
Only for-profit businesses are eligible.
The business must have an active or renewed City of Tacoma business.
The business must have been operating on or before Sept. 12, 2022.
To apply, businesses must provide an up-to-date Form W9 and their City of Tacoma business license. The business license must have been active or renewed before Monday, July 24.
Applications are available on the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber’s website. For any additional assistance completing the application, contact the chamber at 253-627-2175.
