New tea shop planned for Tacoma West End shopping center. Here are the details
Plans have been filed with the City of Tacoma for a new tea shop in the Westgate South shopping center in the West End.
Serenitea’s website states that it will be “a space where people can come in, relax and de-stress. A space where customers can find a new world to explore in a book while they enjoy a pot of tea. With a large selection of teas available customers will have the opportunity to try new flavors and take home their favorites.”
According to the permit application filed Dec. 7, work on the location, 2405 N. Pearl St., is tentatively scheduled to start in mid-January, converting an existing office space into the tea shop.
Owner Thaedra Brondum told The News Tribune via email on Monday that “I have just restarted the permitting process this month, and am hoping to open mid-to-late spring 2024.”
Brondum wrote that the shop “will be selling pots of hot tea or glasses of iced tea to be enjoyed on premise. Tea will also be sold as loose leaf by the ounce for customers to purchase as well as tea-related merchandise.”
A variety of science fiction and fantasy genre books will be available for customers to peruse and read while visiting.
Brondum noted that the pandemic “highlighted a need for people to have a space where they can take care of their mental health and well-being away from the office and home. It is my hope that Serenitea will be a tea shop where people can come in, enjoy a pot of tea in a relaxing setting, and take a moment to escape into a book or chat with friends.”
