Lakewood Towne Center apartment project is focus of public hearing this month

The public will get its chance to weigh in on a large new apartment project planned for Lakewood.

The City of Lakewood Planning and Public Works Department will hold a public hearing 10:30 a.m. Jan. 24 at Lakewood City Hall Council Chambers, 6000 Main St. SW, for Lakewood Towne Center Apartments Master Planned Development.

The meeting will be held in person and also available remotely via Zoom.

The project is planned adjacent to Lakewood Towne Center and will require the demolition and relocation of the existing Barnes & Noble store.

The News Tribune reported in October that the bookstore appears set to move to the former Dressbarn location at the center, 10330 59th Ave SW, Unit A&B, according to permitting on file.

The apartment project calls for 309 market-rate housing units; 147 of those units are planned in a 5-story elevator-serviced building as well as 162 units in seven, 3-story garden-style buildings.

The development will include more than 40,000 square feet of common open area, more than 473 on-site parking stalls, indoor and outdoor amenity areas for tenants and a landscape buffer.

The developer is Alliance Residential of Seattle.
