If you are a fan of the Killer Burger chain, you are going to have to wait a bit longer before visiting one of its long-planned South Sound locations.

Adam Sanders is CEO of the Portland, Oregon-area-based Killer Burger. He told The News Tribune on Thursday in response to questions that plans for an expansion in the Puget Sound region are on pause for now.

The News Tribune in September reported on the chain’s plans for six new South Sound locations as part of a partnership with Cascade Dining, a local franchise firm, with expansion occurring over the next five years.

“While our original plan aimed for a spring 2025 opening, the developer unfortunately canceled the new construction project after a series of delays,” Sanders wrote Thursday.

He did not offer further details on specific site delays or locations.

Sanders added that the restaurant brand remained “fully committed to bringing Killer Burger to Tacoma, Puyallup, Olympia and beyond. We’re actively exploring new real estate opportunities in the area.”

Killer Burger first shared its intent to expand via franchising to Tacoma and the South Sound in 2020. The brand started in 2010 in Portland and has grown to more than 20 locations with four sites in Washington state — one in Spokane Valley and three in Vancouver, according to its website.

Signature dishes include a third-pound burger with peanut butter, pickles and bacon and the Bender with spicy barbecue sauce, crispy jalapenos and grilled onions.
