See which Rite Aid stores in Pierce, Thurston counties are on new lists of closures
Each Friday in June so far, attorneys in the federal bankruptcy case of Rite Aid have released lists of additional proposed store/pharmacy location closures.
In the eighth notice submitted June 20 to U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey, a Puyallup Rite Aid is among seven Washington state sites on the list.
A seventh notice, entered into court June 13, contained four additional Washington stores.
The eighth notice included 118 stores nationwide; the seventh listed 125 U.S. stores.
Dozens of Rite Aid/Bartell drugstores in the state are now slated for shutdown. Here are the Washington state locations from the last two notifications:

So long, Bartell
While a growing number of Bartell sites appeared on the two most recent lists, CVS confirmed Friday that the remaining Bartell drugstores in the area would be rebranded, leading to the demise of both the Rite Aid and Bartell brands.
In a statement sent to The News Tribune, Rhode Island-based CVS stated that 20 Bartell Drugs it is acquiring and operating “will be rebranded to CVS Pharmacy.”
Philadelphia-based Rite Aid purchased Seattle-based Bartell Drugs in 2020. Bartell, founded in 1890, has operated as a Rite Aid subsidiary since that acquisition.
Rite Aid announced its second round of bankruptcy in two years in May of this year.
It is unclear yet what happens at locations where both Rite Aid and Bartell Drugs currently operate in close proximity, such as Gig Harbor, and if/when more rounds of closures will be announced.
Bartell has sites in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties.
According to the CVS statement, “We continue to move through the transaction process related to our intended purchase of certain Rite Aid assets in the Pacific Northwest and are evaluating what’s needed to best serve Rite Aid customers and patients who will be transitioning to CVS Pharmacy … in the weeks and months ahead.”
CVS is acquiring 64 Rite Aid/Bartell sites in total across Idaho, Oregon and Washington, adding to 70 CVS stores already in existence.
CVS added that “We know Bartell Drugs has been a much-loved brand in Washington and we’re planning to continue to offer many of the local products their customers have grown to know and love,” as well as “enhancing the overall product selection and availability in these locations … .”
“Current employees who would like to join the CVS Pharmacy team will also be considered for roles,” it noted.
