New children’s therapy center taking shape in Tacoma. Here are the details
Officials with Tacoma-based MultiCare Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Network on Tuesday broke ground on a new outpatient children’s therapy center.
The center, 3307 S. 19th St., across from MultiCare’s Allenmore Hospital, is planned as a two-story, 16,000-square-foot medical office building.
The site will offer “comprehensive physical, occupational, speech and feeding therapy services, as well as audiology and in-house orthotics and prosthetics,” according to the health system.
The site is set to debut for patient care late next year.
“This is an exciting time and monumental year for Mary Bridge Children’s,” said Jeff Poltawsky, president and market leader of Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Health Network in a statement.
The project is in partnership with Gig Harbor based-The Rush Companies, which is developing the site.
County records show that a Rush-affiliated LLC acquired the undeveloped parcel, which is next to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, from a Bellevue-based investment LLC for $1.5 million in 2023.
Pre-application information filed last November with the city of Tacoma listed an initial cost estimate for the project at more than $3.1 million.
“We believe kids should be at the front of the line and we’re grateful to partner with Rush to bring this project to life and improve access to critical rehabilitation services for families in the Sound end and beyond,” Poltawsky said.
“We’re proud to expand our partnership with MultiCare through the development of this new children’s therapy center,” said Danny Kruse, vice president, The Rush Companies. “This project reflects our shared commitment to expanding valuable services that support the health and well-being of our community. We’re also grateful to Commencement Bank, a trusted local lender, for their partnership and support in bringing this project to life.”
Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy will include dedicated parking.
“Many of our patients rely on at least two forms of therapies, often requiring multiple weekly appointments,” Poltawsky said. “Our goal is to provide ease of access for all patient families, so their therapy appointments can be consolidated and be as minimally disruptive to their lives as possible.”
Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy Services treats more than 16,500 pediatric patients annually at its outpatient therapy clinics in Puyallup, Renton, Gig Harbor, Olympia, Federal Way, Lakewood and South Tacoma.
A new Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma is currently under construction, across from the current hospital at 317 M.L.K. Jr Way, and is set to open next year.
