Here is timeline for store overhauls among local Rite Aid sites acquired by CVS

As the Point Fosdick Rite Aid in Gig Harbor is set to reopen as CVS Aug. 12, three other local sites in the bankrupt Rite Aid chain have timetables for conversion.

Here’s the latest list of Pierce County sites acquired by CVS provided by CVS media representative Amy Thibault in response to questions Monday from The News Tribune. The list includes transition dates from Rite Aid to CVS, “subject to customary closing conditions,” she noted.

All of the sites currently operate as Rite Aid. No Pierce County Bartell locations were listed as part of the acquisition.

Approximately 20 Bartell Drug locations in Washington have converted or are set to become CVS, primarily in King and Snohomish counties, according to the list, along with 29 Rite Aid stores statewide listed for conversion.

Pierce County Rite Aid store conversions to CVS

  • 4818 Point Fosdick DrIve NW, Gig Harbor, closing Aug. 11, to reopen as CVS Aug. 12.
  • 9502 176th St. E., Puyallup, closing Aug. 17, to reopen as CVS Aug. 18.
  • 7041 Pacific Ave., Tacoma, closing Sept. 3, to reopen as CVS Sept. 4.
  • 1912 N. Pearl St., Tacoma, closing Sept. 8, to reopen as CVS Sept. 9.

Bartell Drugs, founded in 1890 in Seattle, became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rite Aid in late 2020, with stores in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. Rite Aid filed for its second round of bankruptcy in two years in May of this year.

CVS is set to take over 64 Rite Aid locations in Washington, Idaho and Oregon, including the 20 Washington Bartell sites, along with acquiring prescriptions from about 625 Rite Aid locations across 15 states.

For the stores closing, prescription transfers appear to be headed to various CVS, Safeway, Fred Meyer and QFC pharmacies in the Pacific Northwest. Competitor Walgreens also appears to have gained some of the prescription transfers, particularly on the East Coast, according to a Rite Aid online store transfer list.
