Will Spirit Christmas stores make it to Pierce County? Here’s what they told us
While Spirit Halloween makes the most of abandoned store sites in our area, don’t count on seeing any of its holiday retail brand partner opening here soon.
Spirit Christmas, a pop-up retail offshoot of the Spirit Halloween brand, plans to open 30 stores this season (up from a previous eight), “with locations concentrated in the Northeast and Great Lakes regions,” according to an emailed statement from the company’s media representative to The News Tribune in response to questions.
Spirit Christmas and Spirit Halloween operate under Spencer Spirit Holdings of New Jersey.
Mary Griswold, marketing and PR assistant for the Spirit brands, told The News Tribune via email, “Our seasonal business model allows us to carefully evaluate markets each year, and while we are not expanding to all areas at this time, we remain committed to delivering an immersive holiday shopping experience ... .“
She added, “Guests not located in these areas can shop a limited assortment of Spirit Christmas products online at SpiritChristmas.com.” The website also allows for a search of brick-and-mortar store locations.
Meanwhile, Spirit Halloween has no shortage of sites in Washington state.
The statewide list is a who’s who of downsized or departed brands. They include the former sites of the following: Joann Fabrics, Rite Aid, Party City, Bed Bath & Beyond, Forever 21, Bartell Drugs, Petco, Office Depot, Sears Appliance, Toys R Us, Tuesday Morning, Davids Bridal, American Freight, Macy’s, Albertsons, Big Lots and Pier 1 Imports.
Nationwide, Spirit Halloween has more than 1,500 stores throughout the United States and Canada. Last year, California had the most Spirit stores in its state, with nearly 200, compared with Washington state’s 42.
