  • JARDE LLC will permanently close Bremerton delivery facility, cutting 110 jobs.
  • Company filed WARN and cited contract loss with e-retail giant Amazon.
  • Affected roles include delivery associates, dispatchers and administrative staff.

More details are emerging of Amazon’s planned workforce cutbacks, with two separate notices filed with Washington state in recent days.

On the evening of Oct. 28, the state Department of Employment Security released Amazon’s notification of approximately 2,303 positions eliminated starting in late January and running through next May,

The notice lists layoffs at various Amazon offices/facilities in the state, with the bulk of them in Seattle and Bellevue. The total also includes 116 remote employees who live in the state.

“While WARN requires only 60 days’ advance notice, Amazon is providing at least 90 days’ notice to all affected employees before their separations are scheduled to occur,” the company’s letter stated. “Affected employees who accept internal transfer opportunities at Amazon prior to their separation date will not be separated as a result of this action.”

In Pierce County, two positions were listed among the positions going away, one in DuPont and another in Puyallup, along with two in Thurston County at its Lacey fulfillment center.

The update puts the first specific numbers in Washington to Amazon’s elimination of thousands of jobs in its corporate offices, announced on Oct. 28.

The job descriptions listed in the notice included various management roles, software engineers, games division positions, data engineers, finance and account executives, and more.

The notification with Amazon’s entire list is online at the state’s WARN site.

JARDE delivery service cuts 110 workers

Separately, a regional delivery service partner with Amazon has filed a layoff notice with the state Department of Employment Security, eliminating more than 100 jobs.

Joseph Otte, owner of JARDE LLC of Auburn, filed the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the state in a letter dated Oct. 23. The layoff notification was added to the state’s WARN list on Oct. 27.

According to the letter, JARDE will “permanently close its operations effective October 31.” The WARN letter stated that the action “is due to an unforeseen and unexpected termination of our service contract by Amazon Logistics ... .”

The layoffs total “approximately 110 employees” at JARDE’s Bremerton facility. Affected workers, who were notified by letter Oct. 24, include delivery associates, dispatchers and administrative/management staff.

The company delivered packages for Amazon in the region from the Bremerton Amazon logistics site, including Kitsap and portions of Pierce and Mason counties.

An online business search of the facility indicates other delivery-service partners also work out of the same fulfillment center.

Amazon spokesperson Dannea DeLisser told The Seattle Times in a statement that JARDE was “exiting the Amazon Delivery Service Partner Program.”

“While we don’t discuss details of our business relationships, we regularly evaluate our network to ensure it meets our standards for reliable delivery service and customer expectations,” DeLisser stated.

Amazon uses contract drivers in its delivery program.

Otte did not respond to a request for further details from The News Tribune on Oct. 28.
