More details were released Monday regarding the nationwide layoffs planned by Verizon, including what will happen in Washington state.

The telecommunications company last week announced it was cutting more than 13,000 workers because of “cost structure limits” for Verizon to be “faster and more focused,” according to CEO Dan Schulman.

According to its Worker Adjustment and Training Notification filing with the Washington State Department of Employment Security, a total of 165 workers in the state are affected.

The notice, filed with the state on Nov. 21 and added Monday on the state’s WARN website, said that the layoffs are “expected to commence effective January 23, 2026.”

Pierce County appears twice on the list, with approximately six workers affected — three each in Lakewood and Tacoma.

According to the notice, “Verizon is consolidating and restructuring its operations to maximize the utilization of company facilities and resources. As part of this consolidation, certain of Verizon’s operating unit(s) will be conducting layoffs in specific business functions across the state of Washington.”

More than 30 locations are listed statewide, with each losing anywhere from a few workers to up to 22 at a Bellevue Verizon office.

Some of the locations are set to be “divested to an agent, which means the facility will no longer be operated by Verizon,” the filing noted.

Total layoffs also include 54 affected remote employees residing within the state of Washington.
