A familiar Mexican street-food business at Point Ruston is celebrating its newest location this week.

Taco Street’s grand opening celebration is set for Dec. 2 at the Tacoma Mall.

That’s a Tuesday, and the day of opening is intentional for Taco Street.

“Yep, on a Taco Tuesday and it’s al pastor,” Taco Street owner, founder an executive chef Elonka Perez told The News Tribune via email. “Five tacos for $7.50 and we have a trompo de al pastor in the mall.”

The process involves a “trompo” (spinning top), that slowly cooks pork, marinated in a combination of spices and other ingredients, on a vertical rotisserie. The meat is then shaved off for use in the tacos.

The business shared additional opening day details on social media.

“If you’ve been to any of our events you’ve probably seen our taco cart,” the post noted. “Well, now you will order directly from our taqueros (taco vendors) just like you do when we’re on the street.”

Taco Street’s menu includes other types of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, vegetarian options and more.

The News Tribune first reported on the new mall location in June as part of a switch-up of locations for the business to expand in Tacoma beyond its Point Ruston site.

In May, a notice on Taco Street’s website said that the brand’s Seattle location, in operation for eight years, would transform into a commissary kitchen “effective immediately.”

Taco Street in the Tacoma Mall is across from The Drop and next to MIX Poke Bar in the mall’s food court. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
