A new McDonald’s is planned for Tacoma. Here’s what we know
Plans are moving forward for a new McDonald’s on the corner of Pacific Avenue and South 38th Street in Tacoma.
Site development plans were filed with the City of Tacoma on Jan. 20, with a proposed location of 3801 Pacific Ave.
A pre-application was filed in 2024, laying out plans for a McDonald’s restaurant and drive-thru with 47 parking spaces, coming in at around 3,600 square feet, as The News Tribune previously reported.
The pre-application listed the project’s estimated value at $1 million.
No further details are available, and McDonald’s corporate media office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
McDonald’s hasn’t been the only company eyeing the empty lot on Pac Ave. Plans were filed for a proposed 7-Eleven at 3801 Pacific Ave. in 2024, but they eventually were cancelled.
There are nine other McDonald’s restaurants in Tacoma. The closest McDonald’s to the proposed site on Pac Ave is about two miles away at 2916 S. 38th Ave.
Another McDonald’s might be coming to 7605 Hosmer St., the site of a shuttered Jack in the Box. A pre-application was filed for the site early last year.
McDonald’s is looking at operating 50,000 locations worldwide by the end of 2027, according to a 2023 press release.
The chain is also rolling out some new menu items this week, including a new hot honey sauce, a Hot Honey Sausage Egg Biscuit, a Hot Honey McCrispy Sandwich with or without bacon and a Hot Honey Snack Wrap.
The items will be available at participating restaurants nationwide starting Jan. 27, according to the McDonald’s website.
