A new men and women’s clothing boutique and gift shop, called Swank Boutique, has opened in University Place and had a ribbon cutting Thursday.

Owner Angela Low said the boutique is not a reference to the controversial Pierce County Sheriff, Keith Swank but an extension of a Spokane boutique with the same name.

Upon a visit to the store (3610 Bridgeport Way W., Suite 5) earlier this week, colorful dresses, sweaters and shirts adorned the racks, and fragrances, candles, accessories and gifts were displayed on tables. Low said new merchandise drops every other Friday, and a Valentine’s Day clothing and gift collection is coming soon. She is also bringing in petite and plus sizes.

Through the end of the month, everything in the shop with a pink bow will be marked an additional 20% off.

The University Place shop opened in the fall, and Low said she wanted to bring a boutique to the area which doesn’t have many. Low is from Spokane and in 2020 bought Swank Boutique there, which had been in business for about 15 years.

“I’ve always loved fashion. I’m, like, the person that goes to bed at night planning my outfit for the next day,” Low said. “We had moved to Gig Harbor, like, four years ago, and I was, like, if I had my dream job, it would be working in the boutique full-time … So that’s what I’ve been doing, and now I’m, like, ‘Oh my gosh, let’s hope this works!’”

Swank Boutique is known for its stylish dresses, which are popular for weddings and events, Low said. The shop also has a walk-in permanent jewelry station, where customers can have bracelets, necklaces or anklets custom-fitted and fused to create a clasp-free piece in less than 30 minutes.

Every month the boutique will have events, which will be posted on its social media and website.
