A kiosk snack site that touts “The world’s best flavored french fries” is planning to open at the Tacoma Mall.

An application for tenant improvement was submitted this week to the City of Tacoma for a new Potato Corner. It plans to go into a now-vacant space at the food court inside the mall, 4502 S. Steele St.

The new business will be next to Sarku Japan, according to the mall’s onsite map. The permit information shows an anticipated work start date in June. No opening date is yet available.

Currently the closest Potato Corner is at Westfield Southcenter in Tukwila. The new kiosk is one of eight new sites planned for the chain located across nine states, according to its website.

The website shows new sites also coming to Oregon, Texas and California — which already is home to seven Potato Corner locations.

The business started more than 32 years ago in the Philippines and operates worldwide. The menu and business profile feature fries and gourmet chips in multiple flavors (BBQ, Sour Cream and Onion, Chili BBQ and Cheddar) coming in various sized containers ranging from “regular” to “tera mix.”

The brand and its global franchise were acquired by Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures Inc. in 2021.

Potato Corner is the latest food/beverage entity added to the mall’s “coming soon” list, which also includes Gong Cha bubble tea, Supreme Dumplings, Simply Thai and Happy Lamb Hot Pot in the mall’s new Village buildings. The Village saw the debut of Dave’s Hot Chicken in January.
