One year after Rite Aid began its second round of bankruptcy proceedings in two years, one of its former Pierce County sites has sold.
The former Rite Aid at 11220 Canyon Road E. between Summit and Summit View was one of several in the Puyallup area to close as result of the drugstore chain’s bankruptcy last year.
The Auburn-based LLC that purchased the property appears to be affiliated with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe’s development side, according to filings with the Secretary of State’s Office.
The site was sold by a Puyallup LLC for $5.5 million.
Paperwork filed with Pierce County Planning and Public Works in February of this year by legal representatives for the LLC sought more information on county code interpretation for a proposed use of the property — a We Care Daily Clinic.
According to the letter, “We Care Daily Clinics are a collaboration between the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and Indigenous Pact Collaboratives, which offer important out-patient opioid treatment, counseling and related services to members of the community.”
There are We Care Daily sites in Seattle and Auburn, with mobile units in Seattle and Tacoma, according to the entity’s website.
Correspondence from the county on file dated April 14, 2026, confirmed the site’s zoning allowed for Level 1 health service use and indicated the clinic would qualify as such.
A representative for the LLC did not respond to a request for comment from The News Tribune.
The former drugstore location was one of dozens shuttered last year as Rite Aid dissolved into bankruptcy for a second time after emerging from another bankruptcy in September 2024.
Closure of the Canyon Road East site was announced in July 2025.
Rival drugstore chain CVS purchased the prescriptions from hundreds of Bartell (which had become a Rite Aid subsidiary in 2020) and Rite Aid sites. It also took on more than 60 Rite Aid locations in the Northwest to convert to CVS.

Meanwhile a South Hill-area site, 12811 Meridian St. E., appears to be under consideration for a Virginia Mason Franciscan Health freestanding emergency department, filings with the county show.
In response to questions, the medical system told The News Tribune in an emailed statement, “VMFH continually evaluates community needs with the goal of improving access to care closer to home for our patients.”
It added, “We are currently assessing a site in Puyallup and look forward to sharing more details in the near future.”

Meanwhile, a former Bartell’s at 2700 Bridgeport Way is becoming a Kiddie Academy, a national franchise of educational child care centers opening this fall, Briske told The News Tribune.
