Gasoline prices continue their tumble.
Average retail prices in Tacoma have fallen 6.9 cents per gallon over the past week, the petroleum price survey site GasBuddy.com reported Tuesday.
The latest average price for a gallon of regular grade gas in the area was $2.84, the firm reported.
The South Sound price compares with the national average retail price, which has fallen 6.1 cents over the past week to settle at $2.39 per gallon.

The latest price in Tacoma was 95.5 cents per gallon lower than on the same day a year ago, and is 27.6 cents lower than one month ago. The national average price has decreased 20.2 cents per gallon over the month and is down $1.037 from a year before.
“I expect (the national average price) to continue moving lower, with our projections aiming at a sub-$2-per-gallon average by Christmas, or perhaps even earlier,” stated Patrick DeHaan, senior GasBuddy analyst, in a weekly release.
The lowest price available Tuesday morning, according to the price-monitoring site tacomagasprices.com, was $2.44, marked at a Lakewood Shell outlet. A Lakewood Safeway outlet and a central Tacoma Costco followed at $2.47 per gallon.
