Tacoma-based MultiCare Health System is expanding its reach in Western Washington by negotiating the purchase of Hospice of Kitsap County in Silverdale.

The two organizations intend to close the transaction later this year, according to a news release, subject to a certificate of need review by the Washington Department of Health.

The purchase price was not disclosed. MultiCare spokeswoman Marce Edwards said in an email no further details would be released until the deal is done.

Hospice of Kitsap County has 50 employees and more than 60 volunteers, according to the release. MultiCare has hospice and home health services in Pierce and King counties. Both organizations serve adults and children.

The Kitsap County organization has been looking for a “partner,” board president Suzanne Plemmons said in the release. Hospice of Kitsap County is a nonprofit agency supported through memorial gifts, donations, grants and annual fundraising events.

If the sale closes, Hospice of Kitsap County will become part of MultiCare’s system.
