A New York-based urgent care company will open its first West Coast clinics by next summer as part of a joint venture with Tacoma-based CHI Franciscan Health.
CityMD and Franciscan announced the partnership Monday in a news release. Franciscan spokesman Scott Thompson said in an email that the hospital system and CityMD will each have 50 percent equity ownership.
CityMD was founded in 2010 in Manhattan. Since then it’s expanded to more than 50 locations in the New York metropolitan area and New Jersey.
Franciscan currently has eight urgent care clinics. Thompson said “several CityMD clinics” will be open in Pierce and King counties by summer 2016, though he did not have an exact number.

According to the release, CityMD offers a service called “Aftercare,” which is staffed by physicians, clinicians and referral coordinators. Patients receive follow-up calls to see how they have responded to treatment, the release said. The Aftercare team will schedule more appointments if needed.
The urgent care clinics will be open year-round and will accept most major health insurance plans.
