Su Dowie is retiring as executive director and planner at the Foss Waterway Development Authority.
In a release this week, board president Betsy Stauffer expressed regret for Dowie’s departure, but praised her achievements.
“Su has been essential to the FWDA’s efforts,” Stauffer stated. “We can see evidence of her success in the recent completion of the Henry Foss residential development and the hotel construction work that will commence in 2016.”
The FWDA Board is forming an ad hoc committee to search for Dowie’s replacement and hopes to hire a new executive director during the first quarter of next year. Dowie will remain as executive director during the hiring period.

“There are exciting times ahead for the FWDA as the economic climate for development continues to improve and its end goal of creating an appealing city waterfront for residents, businesses and recreational uses is in sight,” Jay Jetter, president-elect, said. “A new director with Su’s ability to leverage public and private resources will immediately be tasked with pushing ahead on finalizing the Foss developments and providing for maintenance of the public parks, esplanade and marine improvements. We look forward to FWDA completing its activities within a few years.”
