Tacoma Sustainability Expo set for March 5 at convention center

If you’re wondering what to do with that old Boxcar Willie CD while at the same time you’re desperately searching for a copy of a book that offers, say, a selection of geology jokes, then the 9th Annual South Sound Sustainability Expo is where you’ll need to be.

You might be able to find a buyer for your CD or the seller of a book that mocks rocks at the expo’s Book-Music-Video Swap, but if not, organizers will offer a selection of other activities available at the event.

Workshops will feature topics including electric vehicles, food preservation, fixing a flat bicycle tire and other subjects. Vendors will offer all manner of information and products on subjects ranging from solar power to rain barrels to architectural salvage. For kids of whatever age, activities will include casting a fishing pole, nature golf and recycled art projects.

The South Sound Sustainability Expo is presented by the city of Tacoma Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability, with support from Tacoma Public Utilities, Pierce County, Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union, Pierce Transit and the Port of Tacoma.

The expo runs 10 a.m.-3 p.m. March 5 at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center, 1500 Broadway. Admission is free.

For event information, including a schedule of workshops and other activities, visit SouthSoundSustainabilityExpo.org or call 253-591-5172.
